Genres of Poetry

The major genres of poetry in Arabic are:

•           Narrative/Descriptive – الوصف.

•           Praise (Ode) – المدح.

•           Elegy (Mourning) -الرثاء.

•           Romantic (Love) Poetry -الغزل

•           Boast – الفخر

•           Invective / Lampooning / Insult -الهِجاء

• Wisdom -الحكمة
